In 2023, Gamr Africa forged a strategic alliance with the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) to propel the esports landscape in Nigerian universities to new heights.

The inaugural varsity games, held at the University of Lagos indoor sports center, served as a prelude to this year’s event. It was designed to develop talent and encourage professionalism among Nigerian students. The event welcomed about 200 UNILAG students, featuring a prize pool of 100,000 naira.

This year’s Varsity Games promise to be even more thrilling, with participants from over 40 universities across Nigeria and a prize pool exceeding 5 million naira, awarded as scholarships to top performers.

The 2024 Varsity games will take place from the 8th of June to the 29th of September 2024 and will cover game titles like EAFC24, NBA2k, CODM, Just Dance, and Candy Crush. Qualifiers will commence in June across the universities, where the top contenders in each university will proceed to the regional stage, universities in each region will compete amongst each other and this will lead up to the finals in September where the top performers will converge in Lagos Nigeria for the ultimate championships.
