Africa Comicade, an advocate for fostering the comic and game development industry in Africa, recently unveiled its iconic initiative: The Spark Fellowship 2023. This nine-month fellowship program is dedicated to nurturing young talents by providing them with invaluable opportunities to delve into game development, gain access to jobs, secure mentorships, and connect with potential investors.

What sets The Spark Fellowship apart is its comprehensive approach. Members gain exclusive access to information, industry-standard tools, networks, and resources, all tailored to elevate their careers in the Video Games, XR, Digital Art, and Animation sectors. The program’s meticulously crafted curriculum focuses on imparting both social and technical skills, ensuring fellows receive hands-on experience through practical coursework that mirrors real-life work scenarios.

One of the standout features of the fellowship is the immersive community experience it offers. Fellows are seamlessly integrated into a vibrant community, benefiting from mentorship sessions, engaging lectures, collaborative jams, enriching internships, and more. Beyond the invaluable skills gained, participants receive certificates from esteemed bodies, significantly enhancing their career prospects in these industries.

The overarching goal of this fellowship by Africa Comicade is to empower creatives by equipping them with not just technical prowess but also entrepreneurial skills. By facilitating access to job opportunities and potential funding sources, Africa Comicade aims to nurture a new generation of talented individuals ready to make their mark in the gaming and creative spheres.

The Spark Fellowship will run in two cohorts, the first set will begin training fully in January and the second in March. The training is free courtesy the Unity Workforce grant, however, interested participants will have to pay a refundable fee of $20 to be returned during the capstone phase. Click here to apply by December 10.

The program’s hybrid nature, blending online training with physical activities, ensures accessibility and engagement for all participants. Partners for this program are – The Nest, Maxwryte, igda Foundation, and Enter Africa.

Through this innovative approach, Africa Comicade is creating access to skill-building and networking opportunities, thereby propelling Africa’s gaming and creative industries into a new era of innovation and excellence.
