In a remarkable display of endurance and passion, 24-year-old Nigerian gamer Oside Oluwole, also known as “Khoded,” has shattered the world record for the longest continuous video game marathon playing a soccer game. His astonishing time of 75 hours has set a new benchmark, far exceeding the previous record of 50 hours held by David Whitefoot of England since 2022.
A Passionate Gamer with a Purpose
Oside, a qualified biochemist and car dealer, didn’t just undertake this marathon for personal glory. His primary motivation was to raise funds for a hospital in his hometown of Ijebu Ode. This selfless act has endeared him to many, showcasing his dedication not just to gaming but also to his community.
Dream League Soccer 2023: A Unique Choice
Breaking from tradition, Khoded chose to play Dream League Soccer 2023 on his iPhone, connected to a TV screen. Previous record holders had all played either FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer, making Khoded”s choice a notable departure. His love for this free-to-play soccer sim dates back to 2016, and during the record attempt, he played over 500 matches.
The Challenge and the Triumph
Adhering to the stringent rules for marathon records, Khoded was allowed a five-minute rest for every hour of gameplay. These brief breaks were his only chances to eat, nap, or use the restroom. Despite the grueling nature of the challenge, Oside reflected positively on the experience.
“I had an absolute blast playing for 75 hours straight, with just a few breaks in between,” Khoded shared with Guinness World Records. “It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely fun. The event was amazing, and I’m thankful to God for its success.”
Recognition and Inspiration
Khoded’s incredible feat has not gone unnoticed. Hon. Seun Adesanya, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, commended him in a press release: “The Guinness World Records title is a testament to Mr. Oluwole’s dedication, determination, and countless hours of practice. His achievement is an inspiration to all aspiring gamers and symbolizes the indomitable spirit of determination driving our nation.”
A Record-Breaking Legacy
Khoded’s achievement is unprecedented. The record for the longest soccer video game marathon was first set at 24 hours in 2010 and gradually increased to 50 hours over the next 11 years. Khoded’s 75-hour marathon has now set a new standard, demonstrating his extraordinary commitment and passion for gaming.
As Khoded’s story continues to inspire gamers across Nigeria and beyond, it serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with dedication, passion, and a purpose-driven mindset.
