Adefola comes out on top in the eNPFL tournament securing the $15000 prize pool all for himself. The tournament which was powered by integral and is aimed at picking the best in Nigeria to represent the country at the eWorld Cup after the play-ins, had so many exciting moments as the person who was tipped to win the tournament was knocked out by the champion himself in a penalty shoot-out.
The tournament held had 20 players representing 20 different teams, teams like Kano Pillars, Sporting Lagos, Doma FC, amongst others were represented and the club that came out on top was no other than Remo Stars represented by Adefola.
eNPFL TIMELINE
The group Stage had Group A with, Mr. Oga, Adefola (Remo Stars), Tactical,Kezzy and Shocker. In the bout, Mr Oga and Adefola both had the same amount of points with zero loses, one draw and three wins. Adefola went through because he had a huge goal margin victory and advanced ahead of Mr. Oga in terms of goal difference. Adefola now in the winner’s bracket.
Group B was also stacked as it had one of the major contenders and the person tipped to win the tournament, Faruk Manzo. He did give everyone a run for their money as he was the one who clinged the winner’s bracket ticket. The group comprised of KayKay, Faruk, Novice, Baji Jnr and Chukz jnr. Baji Jnr and KayKay made their way out of the group as well.
Group C, which is the group that was considered the group of death by PlaywithTomide, had; Riomade, Okoye, Sabi boy, Frenzy and Kennyyy_10. Okoye made it through to the winner’s bracket and Riomade was left to battle it out but fell short to Sabi-Boy.
Group D did not disappoint as RhymezBobo took the winner’s spot ahead of Killerfreak and left him to battle it out to secure his spot in the next round, which he gladly did and he did so ahead of Indaboski, Guru and Francis Atey.
In the quarter finals we had Sabi boy Vs Adefola, Baji Vs RhymezBobo, Faruk Vs Killerfreak, Okoye Vs KayKay. After they had battled it out in the losers bracket and survived, it was time for the knockout round and it was a must win game for everyone. Adefola went through and was to await Faruk or Killerfreak which Faruk later won in extra time with a goalline of 6-4. Baji went on to beat RhymezBobo and was to face KayKay.
Semi-finals had fans on chokehold with so many actions, twists and turns. It all came down to penalties and Adefola was able to come out on top. In the second semis Baji jnr was able to coast through with a win over KayKay
The final was a best of 3 match, where Adefola and Baji jnr had to go head to head to see which man would go home with the $15000 prize. The first match ended in a 2-0 win to Adefola, Baji jnr could not take his chances against Adefola and lost the second match in succession. This made Adefola the first ever eNPFL champion, cementing his name in history.
Adefola, the representative of Remo stars, brought the tournament to a halt as fast as possible. He was able to deal with the scoring power of Baji extremely well, making sure he did not score any against him. As the tournament comes to a close the fans look forward to what is to come ahead and the future of Nigeria’s EAFC dream now rests in Adefola’s hands as the fans cheer him on.
