The Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) partnered with Gamr Africa to host Nigeria’s First Varsity Esports competition. NUGA is an association made to foster friendship and unity among Nigerian Universities through sporting events and the competition is fied to hold on the 8th and 9th of December 2021 at the University of Lagos sports centre, indoor hall. The NUGA veered towards developing and encouraging sportsmanship among Nigerian students and Gamr Africa, an organization given to uniting gamers and Promoting esports in Africa came together to organize a gaming tournament in Lagos themed ‘Varsity Esports’.
The event was open to about 200 students with a prize pool of 100,000 naira and certain requirements, one being that the competitors must be students of the University of Lagos.
One hundred and seventy-two students registered for the event to play FIFA 22. At the end of the game.
Olawole Adetoye AKA Wolevation emerged as the winner of the first NUGA varsity esports competition winning 50,000 naira.
Haneef Olabuntu, a 400 level student of System engineering came second winning 30,000 naira.
And Adepoju Paul, a 200 level computer science student came third with a cash prize of 20,000.
