Women in esports 3: an interview with the amazing StØṜM

Share

Still on the interview with women in esports, we interviewed Favour, AKA StØṜM.  Here’s what she had to say about women in the esports community.

Q: Please introduce yourself

A: My name is Godspower Nina Favour.

Q: I know gamers have a special name. What’s yours?

A: I’m StØṜM, My clan tag is SiX, so I’m SiX丨StØṜM

Q: What games are you involved in and what do you like about esports?

A: I used to play a lot of games back when I had the time, but now, because of school and other things I’m currently involved in,  I can only sacrifice part of my spare time for one game..and that’s COD

Q: Do you think there are games particular to men or women?

A: No… men and women can play whatever they want

Q: What is your favorite memory associated with esports and how long have you participated in it?

A: I don’t think I can pick out a favorite memory… I have dozens of sweet memories, one of them being how I met my clan master and got to join my clan❤️

I’ve been gaming for years now

Q: Are there opportunities for female gamers in Nigeria?

A: Yeah I think there’s a lot of opportunities for female gamers

women in esports

Q: As a lady in an industry dominated by men, do you feel intimidated sometimes?

A: LOL, No, I don’t feel intimidated. I’ve always been around guys since I was little, and I used to do what they did, table tennis, football, etc…if anything, it gives me joy to see their reactions when they meet me for the first time and then get beaten by a girl.

Q: What do you think the biggest barrier women in esports face in Nigeria is?

A: One of the barriers is always being seen as the underdog. If there’s a competition with male teams, the girls will always be expected to lose.

It’s not their fault though, it’s just based on what they’ve been seeing, cause a lot of girls don’t play games. We hope to change their perception soon.

Q: What do you think can be done about this?

A: I think girls can work on their skills and believe they can do just as much as the boys can, or even better❤️

Q: What does it mean to you to be a part of the women in esports?

A: Lol I’d say I don’t know. I feel normal, like it’s not something strange, so I don’t know if I should be getting any special feeling about it.

Q: What team do you play with now?

A: I play with my clan Cry-6 (shoutout to all you amazing and beautiful people❤️), I also play with Charm and AwesomeMina(those are both all-girls teams)

Q: Do you have any achievements in the industry?

A: I’m just starting to test my competitive prowess, so no…no achievements for now.

Q: What advice will you give to young women in esports just starting out?

A: Just keep on playing, you’ll get better. Everybody was bad once, but if you just put your mind to it, you’ll get better. Also, don’t listen to any taunts you hear about being a girl, if anything, they should make you more determined to beat the guys who do that.

Q: Do you mind dropping your handles on social media?

A: Lol I’m not very social, so I don’t have social handles to drop. I only use WhatsApp.

Q: Alright, thank you so much for your time

A: My pleasure.

Here’s Favour, one of the women in esports based in Nigeria. We at Nexal Gaming community hope for the best concerning her moving forward
